First post_Blog outlook

Welcome!!! As I'm sure this won't be something that many people read there is little fanfare that goes with this first post (and probably those to come).

I just wanted to give a quick overview of what this blogging journey will entail. First and foremost, it will be a place to record my thoughts and ideas. I don't know that the things inside my head and goings-on in my life are anymore important than the millions of other people posting on blogs but it's time to join in.
To begin, this is going to be a space for me to record my journey to eating and living healthier. Before you start to boo and hiss about "another blog about a diet" let me just say that if you don't like it, don't read it. You have a choice, this is mine! Also, it's not about being skinny, the choice to do this has come after months of reading and researching about how to become a HEALTHIER person. I'm blessed to not be fat; I recently ran my second half-marathon and enjoy an active lifestyle (a 1 year old and 4 year old makes it impossible to be sedentary!) so "dieting" in the typical sense would be unwise. However, I want to feel more energized and overall, physically healthy. Here are a few things that have led me to this point:

a. I had Gestational Diabetes with my second pregnancy (little girl who is currently 19 months old!). This hit me like a ton of bricks. I thought I was eating well and was physically active but it was a blessing in disguise because it helped me realize just how much crap was sneaking into my eating lifestyle.
b. No matter how much I work out I always feel that I am missing something. Anyone who has hit an exercise plateau or tapered off with little results can relate to this. It's hard to put in so much time/energy and not reap the rewards. Again, I don't look fat but I don't feel healthy either.
c. I really have developed a mindset that eating as much unprocessed food as possible is the best way for all of us to live. Yes, it takes a little more effort to prepare meals that aren't from a box but it's so important to know what is going in your body.
d. The benefits of eating right affect so many other parts of life. I'm really on a search to make my overall life more stream-lined, simple, emotionally/physically/spiritually fulfilling; eating right is just a small part of this.

So, this is a place where I can record my thoughts, feelings and struggles. I expect that some people will come across this blog and be annoyed while others will hopefully be encouraged. I strive to be a positive influence to those who I encounter in life. I'm a teacher and I believe my greatest gift to my students is a quality education but also encouragement to be the most productive and positive person possible. There are so many things that people struggle through and I truly believe that having a support system (small or big) is vital in getting through life.

I hope to update this blog at a minimum on a semi-regular basis. But, I also understand that life happens and it may be weeks or months between posts. I'm encouraged by so many blogs that are our there that are written by women who seem to be strong and competent. I want to be part of that culture and hope to be a positive addition to the internet.

In conclusion, welcome :-)
I hope you find a positive vibe while you're here.
